Open Position: Junior Software Engineer

At Havuja, we build software and systems that connect robotics, sensors, and optics into real, working machines — from lab instruments to field systems. As we continue to expand, we’re now looking for a Junior Software Engineer who simply loves building things with code.

You don’t need a perfect CV, fancy titles, or a long work history. If you write software, enjoy making things work in the real world, and have some projects to show, we’d like to talk.

What you’ll do

You’ll be part of a small engineering team working on:

  • Building internal tools and product features for our measurement & robotics platform (e.g., data processing, dashboards, simple UIs, automation scripts).
  • Integrating hardware and software: talking to cameras, sensors, and robots; moving data around; making systems reliable.
  • Turning rough ideas into working prototypes: quick scripts, small services, test tools for the lab and for field pilots.

You’ll mostly work in Tampere, in our lab and office, with the option to work part-remote once you’re up to speed.

What we’re looking for

  • You can write software (in any reasonable language – Python, C/C++, C#, Rust, JS/TS, whatever you actually use).
  • You like building things, not just talking about them.
  • You have some existing projects – hobby builds, school projects, open-source contributions, game mods, automation scripts, Arduino/Raspberry Pi stuff, etc. Anything that shows you enjoy making things work.
  • You are willing to learn new tools and languages as needed.
  • You communicate clearly in English and are okay working in a small, direct, no-nonsense team

Work eligibility (important):

  • You must already have the right to work in Finland / EU.
  • We do not provide visa sponsorship, relocation packages, or work permits at this stage.
  • Please apply only if you are currently in Finland or relocating here on your own and already eligible to work.

We don’t care about:

  • Your exact degree or field of study.
  • Your GPA.
  • Whether your experience is from paid work, student projects, or pure hobby.

We do care about:

  • You finish things. You get stuff done and push projects over the line.
  • You love building and solving problems. You enjoy making real systems work, not just writing code in theory.
  • Hands-on attitude. You’re comfortable experimenting, testing, debugging, and learning by doing.
  • Curiosity and hunger to learn. New tools, new technologies, new domains — you pick things up fast and enjoy the learning curve.

What Havuja offers

  • Real impact: Your code runs in real systems used by real customers, not in a slide deck.
  • Fast learning curve: Work next to senior engineers in robotics, optics, and metrology – and see the whole stack, not just a tiny feature.
  • Small, experienced team: Direct access to founders, quick decisions, low bureaucracy.
  • Premises in the Tampere region: Robots, sensors, instruments – a good playground if you like building.
  • Hybrid work: On-site when it matters (lab, hardware, team sessions), remote when it doesn’t.
  • Room to grow: If you show initiative and deliver, your responsibility grows with you.

How to apply

Send the following to careers@havuja.ai:

  • Your CV (or LinkedIn profile link).
  • A short note (5–10 sentences) about a software project you’ve built:
    • What it does.
    • Why you built it.
    • What you’re proud of and what you’d improve.
  • Any links you have (GitHub, GitLab, personal website, demos, screenshots, etc.).
